🚀 1. Installation & Setup
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Log in to your Arabic101 Dashboard.
(Don't have an account yet? Sign up for a class here to unlock your dashboard). - Navigate to your Timetable or Home page. A new floating widget labeled "Sync Schedule" will appear on your screen.
📅 2. Syncing to Google Calendar
To automatically receive class reminders on your phone or desktop, you need to connect your Google Calendar.
- Click the Connect Google button on the extension widget.
- Choose the Google Account where you want your class schedule to appear.
- Crucial Step: You will see a permission screen asking to manage your calendars. You MUST manually check the box next to "See, edit, share, and permanently delete all the calendars you can access using Google Calendar."
- Click Continue. The widget will now display "Connected" with your email address.
⚠️ Why manually check the box? Due to Google's strict privacy rules (Granular Consent), calendar permissions are left unchecked by default. If you click Continue without checking the box, the sync will fail to create your Arabic101 calendar.
⚙️ 3. Understanding Calendar Modes
Click the Gear Icon (⚙️) in the widget to open the settings. Here, you can choose how your schedule is mapped to your calendar.
🎯 Actual Mode (7 Days or 30 Days)
This mode reads the literal history and future dates of your classes day-by-day. It is highly accurate for real-time changes.
- It accurately tags past and current classes with statuses like [Canceled], [Absent], [Attended], or [Ongoing].
- Best for: Teachers and students who want a precise historical log of their day-to-day class attendance.
🔁 Regular (Timetable) Mode
This mode reads your permanent weekly base schedule and creates infinite "recurring weekly events" in Google Calendar.
- It provides a clean, unchanging overview of your weekly commitments indefinitely into the future.
- Best for: Users who want to see their general availability without worrying about specific date fluctuations.
🔄 4. Auto-Sync vs Manual Sync
Once connected to Google, you have two ways to update your calendar:
- Auto-Sync Background: Check this box in the settings. The extension will silently update your Google Calendar in the background (every 5 minutes if you leave the Timetable page open, or every hour on other dashboard pages).
- Manual Update: Simply click the green Sync (Update) button to force an immediate synchronization of your latest schedule.
💾 5. Offline Mode (Export ICS)
If you prefer not to connect your Google Account, or if you use Apple Calendar or Microsoft Outlook, you can use the offline export feature.
- Click the Gear Icon (⚙️) to select your desired Calendar Mode.
- Click the gray Export ICS button.
- A file named
Arabic101_Schedule_Date.icswill download to your computer. - Open this file with your preferred calendar application to import your classes.
💬 6. Realtime Chat Widget
The extension includes a built-in chat bubble at the bottom right of your screen. It allows you to communicate with teachers or students without switching pages.
- Bandwidth Saver: If you have multiple Arabic101 tabs open, only ONE tab will connect to the chat server, saving your computer's resources.
- Notifications: The chat provides audio "ping" alerts and OS-level desktop notifications when your browser is minimized, so you never miss an important message from your class.
🛠️ 7. Troubleshooting & Reset
If the extension behaves unexpectedly or the sync fails:
- Reset Settings: Click the Gear Icon (⚙️) and click the red Reset Defaults button. This will revert the extension back to Actual (7 Days) mode and turn off Auto-Sync.
- Clear Sync History: If you want to start fresh, click the red Remove button. This will safely delete the active `Arabic101 Academy Schedule` calendar from your Google account. Note: Your past classes archived in the Logs calendar will remain safe!
- If issues persist, try clicking "Sign out Google" and logging in again, making sure to check the calendar permission box.
